#BlackMindsMatter: 12th Annual Jazz In The Gardens Promises to Celebrate Black Artistic Genius and Culture

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (FNN NEWS) – The 12th annual Jazz In The Gardens Music Festival takes over Miami Gardens March 18-19, 2017 at Hard Rock Stadium, and while staying true to its usual power lineup of old school and new school R&B and jazz artists, this year’s theme, #BlackMindsMatter, adds a new resilient tenor to the lineup by specifically celebrating black arts and culture.

This Year’s Lineup

(Listed in Order of Appearance)

Saturday

  • Will Downing
  • Marion Meadows
  • Chante Moore
  • Betty Wright
  • Morris Day & The Time
  • Herbie Hancock
  • Robin Thicke
  • Jill Scott

Sunday

  • Smokie Norful
  • Esperanza Spalding
  • The Roots
  • Andra Day
  • Common
  • LL Cool J (featuring DJ Z-Trip)
  • Jill Scott

Last year’s lineup had less of a Hip Hop presence and had a broader color spectrum with acts like Charlie Wilson, BabyFace, Alex Bugnon, Najee, Regina Belle, Brian Culbertson, Janelle Monae, Fred Hammond, Usher, Cool & The Gang, Average White Band, and Michael McDonald.

Given this year’s theme, the slated artists are a diverse mix of R&B, Jazz, and Hip Hop, boldly embracing and highlighting the many layers of the black experience in its myriad musical expressions. With innovative artists like Esperanza Spalding, The Roots, and Jill Scott, the concert series promises to be an immersive experience that audiences have been waiting all year to relish on a whole new level.
