12th Annual Jazz In The Gardens Adds a Poetic Twist with Poetry Slam Competition

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (FNN NEWS) – The 12th annual Jazz In The Gardens Music Festival bolsters its concert series with an all-new twist: the event’s inaugural Poetry In The Gardens, which is two events in one: the Poetry Slam finals and the Jam Session. The finals will take place 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. Thursday at Miami Gardens City Hall (18605 NW 27th Avenue, Miami Garden, FL 33056).

Poets were required to submit a video entry on the Jazz In The Gardens Music Festival website and the finalists will be notified closer to the event date. The entrants have stylistic freedom, but are encouraged to speak within this year’s #BlackMindsMatter theme, which promises to be potent given the nation’s current state of affairs and the strength and ubiquity of the Black Lives Matter movement.

The Poetry Slam is immediately followed by the Jam Session after party from 11 p.m. to 1 a.m. featuring Eric Roberson. The Jam Session takes place at City Hall as well.

For more information and tickets, visit www.jazzinthegardens.com/jam.
