ORLANDO, Fla. (FNN NEWS) – Former Democratic Presidential candidate and U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders (D-Vermont) campaigned with Florida gubernatorial candidate and Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum in Tampa and Orlando on Friday.
Gillum…”Walk It Like I Talk It” Governor?
The Orlando crowd went wild as Mayor Gillum arrived onstage to Migos’ hit song, “Walk It Like I Talk It” featuring Drake. He emphasized that point as he took the podium, assuring the young crowd at CFE Arena that he is the candidate that can get done what matters most to them without being a millionaire or billionaire to do it. Gillum has used the hit song in his campaign branding as well, also using the phrase on a billboard ad seen on Orange Blossom Trail. His rally speech remained consistent to his campaign platform of healthcare for all, improving public education, criminal justice reform, clean energy, women’s reproductive rights, and better paying jobs.
Senator Bernie Sanders Gives the Crowd What They Want
Senator Sanders riled up the crowd of hundreds of supporters on some key points that also align with Gillum’s campaign, including working to save the environment, healthcare for all, women’s reproductive rights, and raising the minimum wage to $15.00 per hour.
Senator Sanders broke news with two statements during his rally. The first involved the current state of elections and the fact that candidates are beholden to corporations and wealthy donors, therefore he believes that elections should be publicly funded. The second statement was more a declaration: A vote for Andrew Gillum is a vote that will not only change the state of Florida, but the change the entire United States as a whole.
Supporters came away fired up, and with Friday being the first day of early voting in Orange County, Gillum’s hope is that Democratic voters make history this year and turn out to the polls like never before.
