ORLANDO, Fla. (FNN SPORTS) – D’An Russell scored 16 points and DeMarre Carroll had 14 points and 12 rebounds as the Brooklyn Nets defeated the short-handed Orlando Magic by the score of 111-104. The Nets never trailed in the game and had seven of their nine players who played scoring in double-figures.
“Yeah, listen, just a good team win all around. Twenty-eight assists, but what I really like is nine turnovers. I don’t know if that’s our best ratio of the year, but that’s ideally what you’d [want] it to look like. And I think our play with a pass mentality is getting better and that’s why our offensive is improving. And Jarrett Allen was really good tonight rolling to the rim. Guys are starting to look for him, trust him. And then I thought he was good at protecting the rim and firming up. We want him to firm up a little more in that paint and deter the other teams. He had a really good all-around game.” – Nets Head Coach Kenny Atkinson on the Nets’ balance in scoring, ball movement and Jarrett Allen’s performance against Orlando
The Magic are still without Evan Fournier, Terrance Ross, Jonathan Isaac, Jonathon Simmons, and they added Wes Iwundu to the list as he missed the game due to an illness. Magic Head Coach Frank Vogel hopes to have him back for Friday’s game against Chicago.
Orlando couldn’t find a way to take a lead in the game. The closest they got in the second half was after a Khem Burch tip-in, they trailed by four, at the end of the third quarter.
Vogel decided to bring Aaron Gordon and Mario Hezonja back into the game early in the fourth quarter to spark the offense and the Magic went cold. They missed eight shots in a row, which allowed the Nets to pull away.
“Yeah, I know we went cold. I’ll have to look at the tape to see specifically what happened–you know with each of those possessions, but certainly that was a deciding factor or deciding stretch of the game.” – Magic Head Coach Frank Vogel on the team going cold in the fourth quarter
The Magic will return to Amway Center on Friday night to close out their homestand against the Chicago Bulls at 7pm.
