EDGEWOOD, Fla. (FNN NEWS) – At Edgewood City Council’s monthly meeting on April 16, 2019, City Council President John Dowless was appointed Mayor, with a unanimous vote by City Council.
Mayor Dowless has served on Edgewood’s City Council since 2011 and will complete the term of the late Raymond Bagshaw. He is a small business owner and serves on the governing board of Metro Plan Orlando as well as chairing the Municipal Advisory Committee for transportation needs.
Upon accepting his appointment, Mayor Dowless referred to Mayor Bagshaw and acknowledged that he had big shoes to fill. “There are many residents, including Edgewood’s City Council members who are more than qualified and equally passionate about our City. I am humbled by their vote of confidence and will endeavor to make them and the residents of Edgewood proud,” said Mayor Dowless. He added that he was looking forward to working as a team with the City Council to accomplish the goals of improving and redeveloping Orange Avenue as well as preserving the services of City Hall and the Police Department.
