WASHINGTON, D.C.—Congresswoman Val Demings, Florida’s 10th District, responds to the Congressional Budget Office score released Wednesday, which shows 14 million people will lose health care in 2018, and 23 million will be without healthcare by 2026.
“House Republicans pushed this bill through recklessly, hiding from Americans what we knew to be true, this bill will leave millions of Americans behind.
“By eliminating Essential Health Benefits and allowing states to issue waivers, this bill will allow insurance companies to discriminate against those with pre-existing conditions, allow companies to charge women more based solely on their gender, and will restrict access to mental health care for those who need it the most.
“Moreover, the unprecedented cuts to Medicaid will leave seniors and children at risk.
“Republicans can’t have a clear conscience about voting for this cruel legislation.
“This is about protecting the people who sent us here. I urge my colleagues in the Senate to think about those people, and ask themselves who doesn’t deserve health care?”
