Multiple Fatalities, Shooter Arrested After Mass Shooting at Parkland, FL High School

PARKLAND, Fla. (FNN NEWS) – Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel reports seventeen casualties and multiple injured in the mass shooting that took place at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida Wednesday afternoon. According to Yahoo! News, the suspect wore a gas mask, used smoke grenades and pulled the fire alarm before opening fire. Additionally, an AR-15-style weapon was recovered from the scene. It has also been reported that the shooter is in custody, and that the arrest took place off-campus.

Influencers have already taken to social media to voice their condolences for the victims and families–and their outrage. Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America posted on their Facebook page earlier today: “This is at least the 18th school shooting in the U.S. in 2018. Our hearts are with the victims, their loved ones and all those impacted by yet another senseless shooting at an American school.”

President Trump tweeted this statement earlier: “My prayers and condolences to the families of the victims of the terrible Florida shooting. No child, teacher or anyone should ever feel unsafe in an American school.”

The Hill reports that Senator Chris Murphy made a public statement about the Parkland, Florida school shooting on the Senate floor, noting that multiple school shootings is a phenomenon that only occurs in the U.S. “as a consequence of our inaction” on gun violence. “This happens nowhere else other than the United States of America — this epidemic of mass slaughter, this scourge of school shooting after school shooting.”
