Mountain Dew Orlando Pro Summer League 2017 Championship Day Wrap-Up

ORLANDO, Fla. (FNN SPORTS) – The Final Day of the Mountain Dew Orlando Pro Summer League 2017 started extra early, but finished up with the two best teams over the last five days going at it for the first championship of the brand new NBA calendar at Amway Center Thursday, July 6, 2017.

Championship Game: Dallas 83 – Detroit 81

In what could be described as the best game of the entire week, the two best teams of the week put on an overtime thriller. Johnathan Motley’s jumper with 0.3 seconds left gave the Dallas Mavericks the Mountain Dew Orlando NBA Summer League Championship trophy. Motley finished with 18 points and 10 rebounds as Dallas finished the week undefeated at 5-0. Dwight Buycks ended his impressive week by scoring 28 points and having 6 assists. Dallas pulled out the victory even though they trailed most of the game. The game featured 11 lead changes and was tied 11 times.

Luke Kennard finished his first week as an NBA pro by scoring 24 points, and Pierre Jackson (the hero from Wednesday’s game) had 22 points and 8 assists for the Pistons.

3rd Place Game: Indiana 89 – Oklahoma City 80

Indiana only used eight players as they finished off the Oklahoma City Thunder, winning by 9 points. The Pacers did not have players like Joe Young and 1st round pick T.J. Leaf in the lineup, but got 17 points apiece from Naz Long and Jarnell Stokes. Point guard Jordan Loyd was the key for the Pacers in the game. He had 7 points, a team-high 10 rebounds and 6 assists as he kept the Pacers in the lead the entire second-half.

Semaj Christon led the Thunder with 21 points and swingman Josh Huestis had 16 points and 6 rebounds in the game.

5th Place Game: Charlotte 86 – Orlando 78

Dwayne Bacon scored 29 points as Charlotte takes 5th place by the score of 86-78. Bacon was able to score at will against a Magic defense that used a variety of defenders to attempt to keep him off the scoreboard. Bacon went 11 for 20 from the floor and a perfect 7 for 7 from the line to give the Hornets the 5th place spot in the Mountain Dew Orlando Pro Summer League. Johnny O’Bryant III had another solid game by scoring 23 points and Briante Weber had 16 points and 5 assists.

Orlando was led by Przemek Karnowski, who scored 20 points and had 9 rebounds in his second game as a part of the Magic. Marcus Georges-Hunt scored 18 points and Josh Gray ended his summer league play by scoring a week-high 14 points.

7th Place Game: New York 91 – Miami 72

The New York Knicks entered the final day of play like the Miami Heat trying to get their first win of the week. Damien Dotson made sure that New York’s trip back home wasn’t an empty one. He scored a game-high 20 points and grabbed nine rebounds as the Knicks finished the week at 1-4. Damien went 8 for 11 from the floor and had four 3-pointers in the effort. His backcourt mate Chasson Randle ended his solid week in Orlando by knocking down four 3-pointers of his own and had 18 points.

Miami ends the week at 0-5. They were lead by Williams, who had 14 points off the bench. Rookie and Heat top overall pick Bam Adebayo had 13 points and 3 rebounds, even though he struggled shooting 1 for 10 from the floor.
