ORLANDO, Fla. (FNN SPORTS) – After the Magic’s lead was cut to one, D.J. Augustin made sure that the Washington Wizards wasn’t going to take the lead. Augustin scored and assisted on the Magic’s last 11 points as they held on to beat the Wizards by the score of 117-108 on Friday night.
D.J. had 11 points and 4 assists in the game, but his 3 pointer with 2:11 left in the game put the Magic up by 4 and he added 3 free throws in the final 36 seconds seal the victory.
“We all know that we had to finish that. We lost the game the other night because we didn’t finish the game. Moving forward, we don’t let up and keep fighting because this is the NBA. Teams can come back. There’s great players on the floor so we have to finish the game off.” – D.J. Augustin on finishing the game
Orlando had a lead as many as 25 points in the third quarter and everything seemed to be in cruse control until the Wizards made a run. Wizards All-Star guard John Wall scored 11 of his 19 points as Washington went on a 45-21 run in a 17 minute stretch of basketball to close the lead to 1 at 106-105.
Before the run started, Orlando was controlling the game by forcing the Wizards into turnovers (17 to that point), bad shots and excellent execution of the game plan. This was a completely different story and than the game that was played against Detroit on Wednesday night.
“Night and day to me. Night and day. Particularly I think in the first half, really, really good. Again, both ends of the floor, offensively and defensively.”- Magic Head Coach Steve Clifford on the team’s effort from the bench
Nikola Vucevic lead the Magic with 21 points and 14 rebounds. Aaron Gordon (who rolled his ankle late in the 3rd quarter) finished with 20 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Mohamed Bamba set a career-high with 15 points and hit 7 of his 8 shot attempts in the game.
