PARKLAND, Fla. (FNN NEWS) – An emotional day for Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School students and teachers as they attend a back-to-school orientation a little more than a week after the February 14 school shooting that claimed the lives of 17 people.
Before entering the building, thousands of people gathered near the flower-filled memorials just outside the campus. Many parents walked their students inside and were wearing t-shirts with the words “MSD Strong.” They were holding handing hands and wiping tears away as they struggled to try to return to normal after one of the deadliest school shootings in US history.
Administrators did not require students to attend, but many kids said they felt comfort being around their friends and expressing their grief together. Their school resumes a regular schedule again on Wednesday.
