Supreme Court Rules Governor Can Remove Death Penalty Cases From State Attorney Aramis Ayala

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Today, the Florida Supreme Court ruled that Governor Rick Scott has the authority to remove death-penalty cases from Orange-Osceola State Attorney Aramis Ayala.

Governor Scott has reassigned 30 cases from Ayala to State Attorney Brad King after she announced that her office would no longer pursue the death penalty.

The Florida Supreme Court ruled that the governor was acting within his power.
