Willie DavidTALLAHASSEE, Fla. (FNN NEWS) – State Senator Linda Stewart (D-Orlando) will present the Child Safety Alarm Act following the tragic death of an Orlando three-year-old child last summer. Myles Hill was left unattended in a hot daycare van, only to be discovered dead 12 hours later.
“Something must be done and I am pleased that SB 486 is moving through the legislature,” said Stewart. “No child should be left unattended in a hot vehicle and we should do everything we can to try to prevent this from happening. Our children are our community’s most precious cargo.”
Senate Bill 486 is designed to curtail the frequency of incidents in which children are left in hot daycare vehicles. The bill requires daycare centers that transport children to equip their vehicles with reliable safety alarm systems by 2019. These systems will alert drivers to inspect their vehicles for any children who may have been left behind.
The vote is scheduled to take place in the Senate Children, Families, and Elder Affairs Committee on Monday, February 12 at 3:30 PM in Senate Office Building room 401.
A companion bill, House Bill 305, has been filed by Representative Bruce Antone (D-Orlando).
