ORLANDO, Fla. (FNN) – In a last minute squeeze, Peter Vivaldi has filed to run against State Senator Victor Torres in the 2022 midterm election. This showdown makes for a rematch between the two candidates, who ran against each other during the 2016 election.
Both are vying for what’s considered a Puerto Rican seat, since Senate District 25 has a predominantly Puerto Rican population. With the recent redrawing of the districts, Senate District 25 covers all of Osceola and part of south-central Orange, which includes Meadow Woods, Hunters Creek, Southchase and areas up to and including SeaWorld Orlando and the south end of the International Drive tourist district.
While Vivaldi lost to Torres in 2016 by two percentage points, the syndicated conservative radio talk show host feels it’s time to get back in the game. “The Hispanic community has awoken a lot from the idea that it’s sometimes better to just vote for a party than a person,” he said in a recent interview with Florida Politics. “And I think that this is a good time for us to move forward, and seek a difference that really affects our community. It’s a great opportunity. It’s very, very winnable. So I think it’s time to step back in.”
