TAMPA, Fla. (FNN SPORTS) — Mayors Jane Castor (Tampa), Rick Kriseman (St. Petersburg) and Frank Hibbard (Hillsborough County), along with executives from all four Tampa Bay teams commemorated “Champions Day” Friday.
With the breathtaking Tampa Bay in the backdrop, the mayors gathered at Ballast Point Park and laid out the Tampa Bay Lightning’s recently-won Stanley Cup, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ Super Bowl LV Lombardi trophy, the Tampa Bay Rowdies’ USL trophy, and the Tampa Bay Rays’ American League Championship trophy as a show of gratitude to faithful Tampa Bay sports fans and a celebration for the winning teams. “Champa Bay” got its day.
“We want to thank the fans for their support,” said Brian Ford, Tampa Bay Buccaneers COO. “We’re going for number two!”
Mayor Castor recalled the area’s massive visibility and appeal during the Super Bowl. “…Millions of people got to see firsthand our beautiful city and great weather…[They] were expecting the crowds to be much smaller due to the pandemic, but thousands of people came.”
“For sports fans, I don’t think there’s a better city than Tampa Bay,” gushed Mayor Kriseman.
