Willie DavidLOS ANGELES (FNN) — Oscar, Golden Globe and Emmy Award-winning actress, director and producer Regina King will serve as Festival Ambassador for the 30th annual American Black Film Festival (ABFF), organizers announced. The milestone celebration will take place May 27–31, 2026, in Miami Beach, Florida under the theme “The Homecoming.”
The festival, which highlights Black storytellers and emerging creatives in film and television, will mark three decades of showcasing diverse voices and groundbreaking storytelling.
Festival Celebrates 30 Years of Black Storytelling
The 2026 festival marks a major milestone for ABFF, which has grown into a global platform dedicated to advancing Black creatives in entertainment. As ambassador, King will help promote the festival’s mission of elevating new talent and expanding opportunities for filmmakers and artists.
King will welcome audiences during opening night and headline a featured “Creator Conversation,” where she will reflect on her career and the importance of authentic storytelling in Hollywood.
A Longstanding Connection to ABFF
King’s relationship with ABFF dates back nearly 30 years. She first participated in 1997 when the festival was known as the Acapulco Black Film Festival. Since then, both King and the festival have grown significantly, maintaining a shared commitment to creative excellence and cultural representation.
“ABFF has championed countless artists and storytellers, growing into a powerful global platform,” King said in a statement. “What Jeff and Nicole Friday have built over 30 years has made a lasting impact across our industry. Returning feels like a homecoming — a celebration of our creativity, resilience and excellence.”
Festival founders Jeff Friday and Nicole Friday said King’s appointment reflects the deep history between the actress and the festival.
“She represents everything this festival was created to celebrate — artistry, integrity and excellence,” the founders said in a joint statement. “Having her serve as ambassador for our 30th year is truly a full-circle moment.”

King continues to expand her creative influence in Hollywood. She recently portrayed trailblazing congresswoman Shirley Chisholm in the Netflix film Shirley and directed the upcoming adaptation of Forever for Netflix.
