What do the 2014 Winter Olympics have to do with fashion? Plenty. The games, hosted in Sochi, Russia, displayed a wide range of Olympian uniform fashions, playfully dipping in every color they could muster. From white fur to rainbow patchwork, take a look at this rundown of the most fashionable Winter Olympics uniforms.
The Norwegian Men’s Curling team opted to wear a red, white, and blue zigzag suit as their uniform this year. The eye-catching combination is nothing new for the team; they wore similar ornate uniforms at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver and the 2012 World Curling Championship in Switzerland.
This brazen uniform is so popular, an unofficial Facebook page was created in honor of the suit’s pants, earning about 547,000 likes.
Athletes competing for home country Russia wore uniforms that paid homage to the country’s history and culture. The uniform’s colors reflected the nation’s flag and featured traditional Russian patterns. Athletes also adorned leather over coats accented with white fur.
Germany’s Winter Olympics team entered the competition wearing ski jackets displaying a gradient of colors ranging from yellow to blue and red floral pants, making the team stand out from the rest.
One of Sochi’s most creative offerings was the volunteers’ uniform, comprised of rainbow colored patchworks quilt patterns, designed to represent Russia’s diverse regions.
Each of these uniforms reflects the culture and lifestyle of the countries that they represent. Which did you find most fashion forward?
