Orange County, Fla. (FNN NEWS) – Source: Office of Commissioner Victoria Siplin // This past Monday, March 18, 2019, Commissioner Victoria P. Siplin treated forty-three high school students to an educational and thrilling day at Walt Disney World. As part of Commissioner Siplin’s Tourism, Leadership and Community (TLC) Mentoring Program, students discovered the Disney Youth Education Series and experienced the magic of science in some of the iconic attractions.
According to Commissioner Siplin, “My TLC Mentoring Program incorporates learning while students explore our diverse tourism industry so that their minds are not idle during vacation.” The high school students, who are mostly members of youth organizations in District 6, got a peek at how animation is created, experienced the laws of physics in popular roller coasters, and received invaluable career lessons from inspirational Disney cast members.
“My goal is to present our students with options and motivate them to change their starting-line to help end generational poverty”, said Commissioner Siplin. The TLC Mentoring Program is a youth initiative under “A Teachable Moment with Victoria P. Siplin” interactive series; its purpose is to educate the youth about Central Florida’s diverse career sectors, goal setting and attainment, and the importance of civic engagement.
