Florida NOW, State Lawmakers Held A Press Conference On Women’s Equality
ORLANDO, Fla. (FNN NEWS) – Florida’s National Organization for Women (NOW) along with State Senator Linda Stewart (SD-13) State Representative Geraldine Thompson, (HD-44), State Representative Anna Eskamani (HD-47), State Representative House District 44 candidate Cynthia Harris and Orlando District 4 Commissioner Patty Sheehan held a press conference on Women’s Equality at Orlando City Hall Saturday morning.
Senator Stewart spoke on her proposed legislation to end gender-based wage discrimination.

Senate Bill 90 and its House companion bill, sponsored by Representative Geraldine Thompson, seek to eliminate the wage gap women experience in the state of Florida. According to Senator Strewart, the bill would strengthen existing laws that prevent wage discrimination on the basis of sex.
“Florida currently has a wage discrimination law on the books, but it’s not working as well as it should be. In Florida, women make $0.85 for every $1 earned by men – an annual wage gap of $5,515,” said Stewart.
Kim Porteous, president of Florida NOW, says they’re touting the bills to be introduced to close the wage gap and ratify the ERA.
“Because this Constitution was not written for women,” says Porteous. “It was written for, frankly, wealthy white men, and we’ve had to ratify it to make it better. We did it for the abolishment of slavery, with the 13th Amendment.”
ORLANDO, Fla. (FNN Sports) – Russell Henley wins his first red cardigan at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, today, along with $4 million of the $20 million prize pool. The red cardigan was first awarded in 2017, in memory of Arnold Palmer who passed the year before. This is Henley’s fifth win on the PGA Tour.

Henley finished at 11 under par for the four day tournament, carding a 70 today. Collin Morikawa finished in second place at 10 under par. API defending champion, Scottie Scheffler, finished today at 4 under par, tied for 11th place.

This coming week, the top golfers head to TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra, for The Players Championship. The winner will walk away with $4.5 million of the $25 million up for grabs. This is the PGA Tour’s largest regular season purse. Stay tuned to www.FloridaNationalNews.com for more.

The number one ranked golfer in the world, Scheffler finished at 15 under par for the four day tournament, carding a 66 today. Wyndham Clark finished in second place at 10 under par. API defending champion, Kurt Kitayama, did not make the cut, this weekend, finishing 7 over par after the first two rounds on Thursday and Friday.
