Green’s Game-Winning Shot Gives Raptors 93-91 Victory Over Magic

ORLANDO, Fla. (FNN SPORTS) – Danny Green’s 15-foot buzzer beater jump shot with 0.5 seconds left in the game gave the Toronto Raptors a 93-91 victory over the Orlando Magic at Amway Center on Tuesday night. Green made up for missing a couple of open looks earlier in the game and not fouling Evan Fournier when Toronto had a foul to give that allowed the Magic to tie the game at 91.

Green finished with 13 points on 5 for 13 shooting and he hit 3 of his 9 attempts from the three point line.

“Well, that’s the first option on it. We stretch them out there a little bit and Danny [Green] gets a running start and heads off a double screen and then there’s so more stuff to come off that, but that’s the first option. That’s the first time we’ve used it. It was open, Kyle [Lowry] made a good read and obviously, [it was] a good shot.”- Raptors Head Coach Nick Nurse on the game’s final play

After starting the opening half slowly, the Magic picked up their play in the third quarter. They outscored the Raptors 38-26 and Fournier led the charge. He scored 14 of his game-high 27 points in the quarter as the Magic shot 66.7% from the floor. Nikola Vucevic had 8 points and 6 rebounds in the quarter and the Magic out-rebounded the Raptors by 6 in the entire quarter.

But after such a good quarter, the Magic went cold to start the fourth and it led to their ninth loss of the season. Orlando scored only two points from the start of the quarter to the 6:28 mark and they couldn’t take advantage of a smaller Toronto lineup.

“Tough first half offensively, really good third quarter and really the story of the game for us was, I believe we scored two points in the first, I think, six minutes and ten seconds in the fourth. We did a good job fighting at the end. We had good possessions and the last shot was a difficult shot. Two guys up on the shot. It was a fade away 14-15 footer and he knocked it in. Same things we always do, we will watch film. There were some good things and things we have to do better and we will start tomorrow and try to play better on Friday.”- Magic Head Coach Steve Clifford on tonight’s Game

Fournier had his best shooting game of the season in the loss. He shot 11 for 20 from the floor and hit four three-point baskets to get his 27 points. Vucevic, fresh off of being named Eastern Conference player of the week, finished with 14 points and 18 rebounds.

Toronto was led by Kawhi Leonard with 18 points and Pascal Siakam had 15 points and 9 rebounds.

The Magic will start their six-game road trip in Denver on Friday night and won’t return back to Amway Center until December 5th when they take on those same Denver Nuggets.
