JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (FNN Sports) – The Jacksonville Jaguars (2-9) lost to the Atlanta Falcons (5-6), today, at TIAA Bank Field, 21-14. This was the Jags’ 3rd loss in a row.
The Falcons put the first points on the board late in the first quarter with a 7 yard touchdown run by RB Cordarrelle Patterson, followed by K Younghoe Kim’s extra point. The Falcons led 7-0 at the end of the quarter.
Early in the second quarter, a QB Trevor Lawrence pass intended for WR Marvin Jones Jr. was intercepted by Falcons’ S Duron Harmon, but the Falcons were unable to score on that subsequent drive. A later fumble by Jaguars’ RB James Robinson resulted in a Falcons scoring drive that led to a Younghoe Koo field goal that was nullified by a Jaguars’ leverage penalty (unsportsmanlike conduct). On the next play, a 12 yard Cordarelle Patterson touchdown, and extra point by Koo, extended the Falcons’ lead to 14-0. K Matthew Wright kicked a 21 yard field goal for the Jaguars’ first points of the game, late in the second quarter. Soon after, a QB Matt Ryan pass intended for TE Kyle Pitts was intercepted by Jaguars CB Tyson Campbell, his first career interception. The Jaguars were unable to score on that next drive, so the Jags went into the half down 14-3.
The Falcons extended their lead midway through the third quarter with a 12 yard Matt Ryan to WR Russell Gage touchdown pass, and Younghoe Koo extra point, putting Atlanta up 21-3. The Jaguars later scored a touchdown on a 7 yard pass by Trevor Lawrence to WR Tavon Austin. The Jags added a two-point conversion on Lawrence’s pass to TE James O’Shaughnessy shortly before the third quarter ended with a score of 21-11.
The Jaguars added a 34 yard field goal by Matthew Wright midway through the fourth quarter, cutting the Falcons’ lead. But the Jaguars were unable to score on their final drive of the game, losing 21-14.
The Jaguars were without CB Shaquill Griffin, who remains in concussion protocol after leaving the game in the second quarter against the 49ers, last Sunday. TE Dan Arnold also suffered an injury early in the game, and did not return. Trevor Lawrence finished the game with 228 yards, one TD and one interception. James Robinson led the Jaguars with 86 yards rushing, while WR Laquon Treadwell led the receivers with 53 yards.
Jacksonville recognized the NFL’s Salute to Service campaign, honoring multiple members of the military throughout the game, and paying homage to those who have served in all branches of the armed forces. The team also opened a “military express lane” allowing former and current service members, and their families, a quicker entrance into the stadium by simply showing their military ID and their ticket.
The Jaguars travel to the west coast, this week, to face the Los Angeles Rams. Kickoff will be at 4:05 p.m. Sunday, 12/5 at SoFi Stadium.
