Key Murphy Priorities Included in National Defense Authorization Act
WASHINGTON (FNN NEWS) – U.S. Congresswoman Stephanie Murphy of Winter Park, Fla., on Tuesday voted for the Fiscal Year 2018 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) conference report, which sets policy and authorizes funding for the U.S. military, and includes key wins for central Florida. The U.S. House of Representatives passed the conference report in an overwhelmingly bipartisan vote. The Senate will now consider the conference report, and, if approved, it will be sent to the President to be signed into law.

Murphy worked successfully to include several key provisions in the conference report, which reflects a compromise between the House and Senate. These provisions will make it easier for small businesses to obtain contracts and grants from the Department of Defense and other federal agencies; will grow central Florida’s modeling, simulation and training industry and the high-paying jobs it attracts; and will improve the treatment of our men and women in uniform.
“America has the strongest military in the world, and the NDAA ensures that our armed forces have the resources necessary to safeguard our nation at home and project power abroad,” said Murphy, a member of the House Armed Services Committee. “I’m proud to have worked in a bipartisan way to include provisions in the bill to help small businesses and support the creation of high-quality jobs in central Florida. I’ll continue to be a strong advocate for our armed forces and for the men and women who fight to keep us safe.”
Specifically, the bill includes a Murphy-authored amendment to help small businesses obtain federal contracts and grants to engage in research and development that is in the national interest and that has the potential to be commercialized. It also contains the text of a bill Murphy introduced with Rep. Dave Brat, R-Va., to help ensure that small businesses receive their fair and legally-required share of federal government contracts. Additionally, the bill includes several provisionswritten by Murphy to support Florida’s $5 billion modeling, simulation, and training industry, which employs around 30,000 Floridians.
ORLANDO, Fla. (FNN Sports) – Russell Henley wins his first red cardigan at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, today, along with $4 million of the $20 million prize pool. The red cardigan was first awarded in 2017, in memory of Arnold Palmer who passed the year before. This is Henley’s fifth win on the PGA Tour.

Henley finished at 11 under par for the four day tournament, carding a 70 today. Collin Morikawa finished in second place at 10 under par. API defending champion, Scottie Scheffler, finished today at 4 under par, tied for 11th place.

This coming week, the top golfers head to TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra, for The Players Championship. The winner will walk away with $4.5 million of the $25 million up for grabs. This is the PGA Tour’s largest regular season purse. Stay tuned to www.FloridaNationalNews.com for more.

ORLANDO, Fla. (FNN Sports) – Scottie Scheffler wins his second red cardigan at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, today, along with $4 million of the $20 million prize pool. The red cardigan was first awarded in 2017, in memory of Arnold Palmer who passed the year before. Scheffler first won the API in 2022.

The number one ranked golfer in the world, Scheffler finished at 15 under par for the four day tournament, carding a 66 today. Wyndham Clark finished in second place at 10 under par. API defending champion, Kurt Kitayama, did not make the cut, this weekend, finishing 7 over par after the first two rounds on Thursday and Friday.
