NFL Week 2 Recap: Buccaneers Resurgent Against Panthers on the Road

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (FNN SPORTS) – The Buccaneers knew Thursday night’s game against the Carolina Panthers was a must-win game. For them to exceed expectations, the Bucs needed a strong start on both offense and defense.

Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston shouldered a lot of pressure heading into last week’s opener against the 49ers. Winston threw for 194 yards with a touchdown and three interceptions (two of them pick sixes) in the losing match. After the game, there were rumors that the team might move on from him or even bench him.

The tables turned on Thursday, though. The Buccaneers looked very strong on defense, particularly outside linebacker Shaquil Barrett. He had an incredible game with three sacks, which gave the team a boost.

On the offensive side, Winston looked good and came through with throwing for 208 yards with one touchdown and no interception. With a 1:24 seconds left in the 4th quarter, on 4th and 1, cornerback Vernon Hargreaves came through with the biggest play of the game by stopping Carolina Panthers’ running back Christian McCaffrey from getting the first down.

With a 20-14 win over the Carolina Panthers, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers looked revamped and focused.
