Orlando City Claws Out a 1-1 Draw Against Rival Atlanta United

ORLANDO, Fla. (FNN SPORTS) – Orlando City SC and nearby rival Atlanta United got physical at Exploria Stadium Saturday night.

Both teams fought for the ball, mainly on Atlanta’s half of the field, with several players tumbling, many of which were Orlando players (including Sebas Mendez, Chris Mueller, and Mauricio Pereyra).

Orlando City’s Benji Michel scored in the minute of stoppage time at the end of the first half, getting on the end of a shot from Daryl Dike to redirect the ball into the back of the net. The score remained 1-0 for much of the game…until after the 90 minutes were up. One minute into the five minutes of stoppage time, Atlanta’s Adam Jahn scored a header into the net, tying the game.

“I thought today was another good demonstration of what Orlando is doing and once again anything I can say won’t soften the frustration that we have because it’s painful after you have the domination that we had in the first half and the options that we had during the game,” said Head Coach Oscar Pareja postgame. “But once again the game told us again that we have to have resolution and finish the games. That’s what we need to do, but we’ll take it.”

Scoring Recap:

45+1’ Benji Michel (Daryl Dike) – ORL 1, ATL 0
City took the lead just before halftime, with Daryl Dike getting a shot off following a City corner toward the right corner of the net. Benji Michel was there to tap it in to ensure the lead for the Lions going into the break.

90+2’ – Adam Jahn (Jake Mulraney, Anton Walkes) – ORL 1, ATL 1
The visitors leveled late with Adam Jahn getting his head on a cross from Jake Mulraney for the equalizer.
