Orlando Magic’s Jeff Dowtin Lands Final-Second Shot in Preseason Win Against Boston Celtics

ORLANDO, Fla. (FNN SPORTS) – The Magic’s nearly all-new team still has a lot of work to do to find a steady rhythm, especially on defense. The Magic hosted the Boston Celtics at Amway Center Wednesday night, and the Magic’s offense kept the game close. When one side would score, the other would immediately answer.

That is, until the second half. Both teams became more offensively aggressive, but with Orlando’s developing defense, Boston got the upper hand.

Aaron Nesmith was Boston’s beast in the first half with 11 points and 4 assists. Orlando’s E’Twaun Moore did the heavy lifting there with 11 points as well, nailing every single one of his shots.

Despite that, the Magic’s fingers weren’t sticky. The young crew clocked a whopping 12 turnovers in the first half.

The score was 56-55 at halftime, with Boston leading.

The end of the third saw the Celtics lead by six, 79-73.

Boston extended its lead to seven in the fourth quarter, but Cole Anthony and Franz Wagner each made clutch three-pointers, shrinking the lead to one with less than four minutes left in the game. With less than three left in the game, Jeff Dowtin switched the score to Orlando leading by one, then both teams went back and forth leading by one.

Within the final minute of the game, it appeared Boston would win with the one-point lead as they ran down the clock and fired off a shot. After a time out, Magic had the ball. Jeff Dowtin ran the ball to the other side of the court and with one second left, landed the buzzer beater that tipped the one-point lead back to the Magic, sending the Amway Center into an uproar. The final score: 103-102.
