Orlando Pride Statement in Response to COVID-19

ORLANDO, Fla. (March 12, 2020) – Orlando City SC and the Orlando Pride are committed to ensuring the safety of players, staff and fans, and fully support the precautionary measures put in place by the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) in lieu of the recent COVID-19 outbreak.

At the current moment, all regular season NWSL matches are still as scheduled, with the Pride slated to open the 2020 regular season on Sunday, April 19 against Sky Blue FC at Exploria Stadium.

In addition, access to all of the Club’s facilities – including Exploria Stadium, the Orlando City SC Training Ground and the Orlando Pride Training Ground – will be limited to only essential employees until further notice.

The safety of fans, players and staff is of the utmost importance to the Club and remains the top priority at this time. During this public health crisis, the Club will remain in contact with all necessary officials for guidance and updates.

Previously, Orlando City SC CEO Alex Leitão issued the following statement regarding COVID-19:

“Our top priority as a Club is the health and safety of everyone from our players, employees and fans. We are clearly dealing with an unprecedented health crisis and remain committed to keeping everyone within our Club and community safe,” Orlando City SC CEO Alex Leitão said. “We will continue to work with local, state and national health officials along with the CDC in monitoring the situation.”

During this time, the Club remains committed to assisting the local community and its members that are currently suffering from the effects of the COVID-19 outbreak as well as educating the community on proper safety protocols.

NWSL Statement:
National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) Commissioner Lisa Baird released the following statement today regarding the 2020 season.

“After receiving guidance from local and state authorities and medical personnel, and with the support of the Board of Directors, the National Women’s Soccer League is canceling the 2020 preseason match schedule in the wake of the most recent developments surrounding COVID-19. Our priority continues to be the safety and well-being of our players, coaches, staff, and fans. We are reviewing all contingency plans related to our regular season schedule and are monitoring developing events and their potential impact. We are deeply appreciative of our fans and partners for their continued support of our league and all our world-class players.”
