Orange County Votes on Dr. Raúl Pino’s Return as New Head of OC Health Services

ORLANDO, Fla. (FNN) – The Orange County Board of Commissioners held its usual weekly meeting on Tuesday, April 26, with a familiar face returning: Dr. Raúl Pino, now as the new head of Orange County Health Services.

Pino was hired by Orange County following the resignation of doctor Yolanda Martínez and his own resignation as head of the Florida Department of Health’s Orange County division. He officially begins his role May 2, 2022.

That resignation came after the State placed Pino on probation following the release of an email he sent to the employees of the Health Department expressing his concern about the low COVID-19 vaccination rate among department employees.

Pino was a mainstay in OC Mayor Jerry Demings’ daily press conferences about the coronavirus pandemic, being praised for his patient and educational style of informing about the pandemic.

“Pino has a rich history in working with our Health Services Department to meet the needs of our community,” Mayor Demings said in a statement following Pino’s hiring. “During these most recent years, Dr. Pino’s leadership has been instrumental in the success of our public health initiatives, including our response to the COVID-19 pandemic.”
