Star Wars: Still a Force Gaining Funds, Despite Critics’ Drawbacks

ORLANDO, Fla. (FNN NEWS) – I know I could suffer some serious backlash to say I’ve not been much of a Star Wars fan, but I can respect this long-running saga and the franchise merchandise frenzy that always follows suit when a new installment arrives in theaters.

This latest Star Wars installment, Rise of Skywalker, boasts the second highest Christmas Day box office ever according to CNBC, to the tune of $32 million, beaten only by another Star Wars film, The Force Awakens, yielding $49 million at the box office back in 2015.

What’s interesting is that despite these phenomenal results, critics were not as generous, giving it a 54% Rotten score on Rotten Tomatoes. Fans countered that result with an 86% on the same site, which goes to show that critics don’t always know best, especially when it comes to die-hard Star Wars fans.

Star Wars is an epic series that no matter how many remakes, prequels, sequels (and maybe one day a finale) are made, fans will show up in droves with money in hand to support this mother ship.

With the first eight days of the movie release now reaching $516 million in revenue, it is sure to earn the number seven spot for Disney’s $1 billion movie of 2019.

Before the next installment goes to production, be sure to take the family to see this latest Star Wars film and let the critics know, Star Wars fans are the force to be reckoned with.
