TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (FNN) – Senator Manny Díaz, Vice Chair of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Education, presented Senate Bill 48, called the Educational Scholarship Programs Bill, which establishes the new McKay-Gardiner scholarship program for students with disabilities and other new regulations.
The new scholarship program joins two existing programs, the McKay, which allows students with disabilities to attend a private school or choose a public school different than the one they are zoned for, and the Gardiner, which helps parents of special needs children to individualize their educational plans.
The bill establishes both scholarship programs as one, the McKay-Gardiner Scholarship Students With Disabilities, and as an educational savings account allowing parents to chose both public and private options, to customize the educational experience to best meet the needs of their child.
