ORLANDO, FL (FNN News) – FNN News Sports Team was honored to be present as Orlando Magic forward Tobias Harris awarded the Nap Ford Community School and the Orlando Community and Youth Trust each with a check for $25,000. The award will assist both groups with intellectual and social tools that will improve education and mentoring initiatives for Parramore-area youth.

“I truly believe all children deserve every opportunity to be successful,” said Magic Forward Tobias Harris. “I’m extremely fortunate to be able to make a difference in people’s lives, and what better place to start than with local Orlando youth in the community I call home. They deserve a path to help them achieve their dreams.”

Attendees of the ceremony were greeted at the entrance by 4 well dressed young men with firm handshakes from Nap Ford Community School. After guests checked in, they were welcomed at the red carpet by Orlando Magic Community Outreach Ambassadors Nick Anderson and Bo Outlaw. The program began with the parents of Tobias Harris, Torrel & Lisa Harris opening up the program with a moment of silence remembering those whose lives were lost 14 years ago on 9/11/01, followed by “America the Beautiful” sung by World Renowned Tenor, Anthony Kearns.

Harris’ donation to both organizations is made possible through the 2014-15 Rich and Helen DeVos Community Enrichment Award. Each year, the Orlando Magic honors a player who has dedicated his efforts off the court for the purpose of enhancing others’ lives at the annual Orlando Magic Youth Foundation Black Tie and Tennies Gala. Harris was named co-winner of the award at the OMYF Gala in March along with Magic guard Victor Oladipo. In addition to receiving the award, the player is granted $50,000 from the Richard and Helen DeVos Foundation to donate to the charity of his choice. Oladipo will announce his donation to a charity(ies) at a later date.
