TAMPA BAY, Fla. (FNN SPORTS) – The Tampa Bay Buccaneers made one thing clear against the Chicago Bears on Sunday: they’d closely studied them.

First Half

The Buccaneers hogged the ball, with a whopping four possessions in the first 15 minutes of the game. The Bucs defense was on point in the first quarter, getting an interception and fumble recovery from the Bears on two separate possessions.

With a little over seven minutes left in the first quarter, Buccaneers cornerback Dee Delaney intercepted the pass intended for wide receiver Allen Robinson III and ran it 26 yards.

Leonard Fournette ran the ball into the red zone, and history. According to CBS Sports, the Bucs have made 19 red zone runs this season, the second highest in the league.

With two minutes left in the first, Shaquil Barrett tackled Chicago bear QB , forcing a fumble, and Vita Vea recovered the ball.

By the end of the first quarter, Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady made history also, throwing his 600th career touchdown pass with a successful nine-yard bomb to Mike Evans. Brady is the first quarterback ever in NFL history to hit that milestone.

On the Bears’ next possession, while they did have the ball for a much longer time, the Bucs defense gave them the hardest time ever. It took 57 yards in 10 plays in nearly four minutes of total play for the Bears to finally get on the board with a 28-yard field goal, making the score 21-3 with six minutes left in the first half.

The Bucs next possession was short and to the point, courtesy of Mike Evans. Their five-play drive culminated in a 46-yard pass to Mike Evans, bringing them to second and goal. Tom Brady and Mike Evans closed the deal with a two-yard touchdown pass, making the score 28-3 with three-and-a-half minutes left in the first half.

The Bucs closed out the first half with even more for the record books. Mike Evans successfully completed his 68th touchdown pass, giving Evans the highest touchdown receptions in franchise history. The score at halftime: 35-3.

Second Half

Jordan Whitehead caused the Bears’ next interception in the fourth quarter, giving the Bucs yet another early chance to widen the gap. On their next possession, the Bucs got to the red zone courtesy Chris Godwin’s near-touchdown pass reception. Despite being at second and goal, the Bucs couldn’t quite pull off a touchdown, so on fourth down, Ryan Succop was called in to kick a 22-yard field goal. Unlike earlier, this one made it in, making the score 38-3. The Bears had no substantive answer, and the game ended with 38-3 as the final score.

The Buccaneers go on the road to face the New Orleans Saints October 31, 2021.

Shooting struggles and a costly third quarter leave Orlando winless through two games under first-year coach Sean Sweeney
ORLANDO, Fla. (FNN SPORTS)
— A new coaching era has opened with consecutive losses for the Orlando Magic, who fell 115-93 to the Minnesota Timberwolves on Friday night at Kia Center.

Orlando dropped to 0-2 under first-year head coach Sean Sweeney as shooting struggles again slowed its offense. The Magic also struggled with turnovers and missed free throws, repeating problems from their season-opening loss to Atlanta. Yahoo Sports

Third-quarter struggles prove costly

Carter leads Orlando

Wendell Carter Jr. finished with 20 points and nine rebounds to lead the Magic. Franz Wagner scored 18 points before fouling out, while Paolo Banchero and Jalen Suggs added 14 apiece.

Anthony Edwards and Jaden McDaniels each scored 15 points for Minnesota, which improved to 2-0. Rudy Gobert contributed 14 points and nine rebounds. Reuters

Perimeter shooting remains a concern

Orlando made just eight of its 39 attempts from 3-point range, shooting 20.5%. Minnesota connected on 37.8% of its attempts from beyond the arc. reuters.com

Two games offer a limited measure of Sweeney’s tenure, but the early results identify an immediate challenge: improving offensive execution and preventing difficult stretches from becoming decisive runs.
