Val Demings, Darren Soto & Stephanie Murphy to Take Oath of Office in Washington Tuesday

ORLANDO, Fla. (FNN NEWS) — Newly elected U.S. Representatives Val Deming, Darren Soto, Stephanie Murphy will be sworn in to the 115th Congress on Tuesday, January 3, 2017.

The three freshman Democrats represent Orange County and face a Republican-led House, Senate and White House.

Congresswoman-elect Val Demings (D-FL10) defeated Thuy Lowe in the general election. Demings is among the new high profile freshmen to watch in Congress. Recently, she announced that she has been appointed to serve as an Assistant Whip in the Democratic Caucus.

Congressman-elect Darren Soto (D-FL09) made history defeating Republican party candidate Wayne Liebnitzky to become the first Puerto Rican to represent Florida in Congress.

Congresswoman-elect Stephanie Murphy (D-FL07), another one to watch in Congress, defeated Republican Rep. John Mica to become the first Vietnamese-American woman to serve in Congress. Murphy unseated Mica, a 24-year veteran in Congress.
