9th Annual Orlando Urban Film Festival, Honoring Orlando and Florida Filmmakers, Opens Tonight

ORLANDO, Fla. (FNN) – The 9th annual Orlando Urban Film Festival (OUFF) will run from Wednesday, January 26 – Saturday, January 29, 2022 at CMX Cinemas Plaza Café 12 Theatre in downtown Orlando. The Saturday evening closing ceremony will be hosted at the Sheraton Orlando North Ballroom in Maitland, followed by the 2022 Orlando Urban Film Festival Awards presentation.

OUFF celebrates the works of Central Orlando’s African American filmmakers as well as a culturally diverse mix of national and international independent filmmakers, producers, actors, artists, photographers, and content creators from the local, national, and global markets.

Wednesday’s Opening Night ceremony includes a champagne toast as well as wine and beer tastings from African American entrepreneur owners. Attendees can also enjoy Afrofuturism music and dancing on the Plaza. In the vein of its Afrofuturism theme, the festival opens with OUFF Black History Month film “Dark Matters: A History of Afrofuture.”

Thursday night will celebrate African American beer distributors with a beer tasting and premiere screening of “One Pint At A Time.” Attendees can meet and greet some “Breakthrough the Red Tape Entrepreneurs” and learn how they pushed through to build their brewery businesses.

Friday night will feature documentary films.

Saturday will feature two panel discussions, with media host Candice Diehl moderating:

  • When Justice Becomes Injustice
  • Health and Wellness in the Black Community

Attendees can meet and greet the specialists, directors and business owners from local Orlando, Florida, and national markets.

During the Saturday evening closing ceremony, attendees can meet Nerd Con guests and representatives as well as OUFF’s directors and guests. They can dress up in their favorite sci-fi character costumes or just dress to impress. These events are followed by the 2022 Awards, which will showcase the winning filmmakers, community leaders and supporters.
