The City of Altamonte Springs and iHeart Media held a free outdoor concert featuring Elvis Crespo with Joe Veras and DJ Leony at Cranes Roost Park’s Eddie Rose Amphitheater, Saturday 7pm-10pm, March 21, 2015.
Officials with Rumba 100.3 FM one of the event’s organizers told the Florida National News that nearly 8000 attendees showed up for the Puerto Rican Merengue superstar Elvis Crespo.
Grammy and Latin Grammy Award winner Elvis Crespo shot to the top of the Billboard charts with his feverish and horn-fueled mix of nonstop merengue, as best exemplified by the anthem “Suavemente,” which topped the charts on Billboard’s National Hot Latin Top 40 and resulted in multiple hits, including “Suavemente”, “Tu Sonrisa” and “Pintame.”
Since then, he has released multiple chart-topping albums and has received numerous accolades and awards. He’s the only Latin artist that has literally been played in the Moon. His unique style transcends genre, ethnicity, ideology and language, and is synonymous with rhythm, movement and a presence defined by his versatility.
Crespo did not disappoint Central Florida Puerto Rican and Latin fans. Boy was he serious about getting up close and personal with his fans.
Crespo left the stage to deliver an amazing high-energy concert singing his hit songs while walking dangerously on the edge of Cranes Roost lake front fence. One slip could cause him to fall into the lake. He also climbed on top a pole to connect directly with thousands of fans came to see him perform, said J. Willie David, III with Florida National News. Fans heard hits like “Suavemente”, “Tu Sonrisa”, “Pintame” and “Luna llena”!
The fans danced in the streets and around Cranes Roost lake front walk way. They raised their smartphones and iPads to light up the sky for Crespo.
Crespo closed the show singing his hit song “Suavemente” to an energized crowd who also sang along. Five police officers with the Altamonte Springs Police Department protected Crespo from hundreds of fans rushing to get a personal selfy with the Merengue superstar. However, police escorted Crespo safely to a black SUV waiting to depart.
