Mayor Unveils 2020 and 2021 Neighborhood Watch of The Year Signs

ORLANDO, Fla. (FNN) – After delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer unveiled the signs recognizing Rock Lake and Montclair Manor as the 2020 and 2021 Neighborhood Watches of the Year, respectively.

The two neighborhoods saw their crime rates drop the most during their respective years, and they now have the signs to prove it.

“Having collaborations between our neighborhood and the police department is probably the most important thing in keeping neighborhoods safe. We can’t have a police officer on every street, 24-7, but we can have neighbors watching out for neighbors,” the mayor said.

Orlando Chief of Police Orlando Rolón agreed, pointing out the importance of neighbor participation in making the police department’s job easier.

“I cannot think of a more important time than now when programs like this are needed across the country. The need to improve relationships with the community is essential for all law enforcement agencies,” he said.
