ORLANDO, Fla. (FNN SPORTS) – Sean Johnson continued his shutout streak on Thursday night as the he led New York City FC to a 2-0 victory over Orlando City. Johnson, whose streak is now at 398 minutes, saved all five of Orlando City’s shots. NYCFC has now won four straight games and is now one point behind Atlanta United for first place in the Eastern Conference.

Even though Johnson made five saves, Orlando City’s offense had four shots that either hit the post or crossbar. MLS All-Star midfielder Yoshimar Yotun led City by hitting the post in each half. Dom Dwyer and Josue Colman also had shots that hit either the crossbar or post in the game as well.

“The biggest thing for me is I’ll never make excuses. The easy thing for me to do is to come out here and say, “Oh we hit the post four times.” There’s something to that, but equally for me there shouldn’t be a disparity between the first and second half. When you look at the first half for what we want, I don’t think that’s what we want.”- Orlando City Head Coach James O’Connor on the team hitting the post four times

After a slow start in the opening 20 minutes in the first half, Orlando City created chances capped off with Yotun hitting the crossbar in 38th minute. Unfortunately, none of those chances ended up with a shot on target. After the missed chance, NYCFC created their own opportunity and it lead to Maximiliano Moralez’s 8th goal of the season.

The goal was created when Orlando’s Defender PC couldn’t clear the ball from the City side of the field, then NYCFC midfielder Rodney Wallace created space, and after his shot hit the post, Moralez grabbed the rebound and put it past City goalkeeper Earl Edwards Jr. to open the scoring in the 40th minute.

New York City closed the half and the scoring in the 45th minute when defender Anton Tinnerholm scored his 4th goal of the season when he slid his shot past Edwards and City entered the half down 2 to 0.

Orlando City will return to action on Sunday when they take on the LA Galaxy and return to Orlando on August 4th when they take on New England.

Goals

NYCFC – 40th min – After the opening New York shot hit the post after Edwards Jr.’s delayed save attempt, Moralez gets the rebound and fires his 8th goal of the season.
