ORLANDO, FLORIDA – In a groundbreaking ceremony Wednesday, Army veteran Kenon Madison, his family, Orlando city officials, members of the Florida Real Estate Foundation, joined by Orange County Property Appraiser Rick Singh and Soil & Water Conservation District Supervisor Daisy Morales celebrated the start of construction of Heroes’ Commons at Jefferson Park in the Parramore community in Orlando.

Being a City for Everyone means ensuring Orlando is a place where individuals and families of all types of economic status can not just live, but can enjoy life, according to Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer.

Nearly 10 years ago we developed the Pathways for Parramore initiative to revitalize our Parramore community and to date, we have made great strides in helping lifelong renters own their first homes, opening new businesses and attracting national headquarters, reducing crime by staggering numbers and engaging our youth in educational and recreational activities.

And today, we continued to further our efforts in providing our residents with access to affordable, safe housing as we broke ground on the first house to be built as part of the Heroes’ Commons at Jefferson Park project, a partnership with the Florida Real Estate Foundation.

Once complete, the project will provide six affordable single-family houses for our local veterans, local law enforcement officers and other public safety personnel in our Parramore neighborhood.

Heroes’ Commons at Jefferson Park is a great example of public private partnerships and how working together, we can meet the needs of all residents who chose to call Orlando home.

I look forward to continuing to build on this effort and ensuring quality redevelopment that complements our surrounding neighborhoods, contributes to the quality of life for our communities and results in more affordable housing options for our residents.

“Maybe if there had something like Heroes’ Commons when I returned as a disabled veteran with no degree, no skills, said Orlando city Commissioner Regina Hill. Hill also stated that she I believed in the project and it will give our veterans the solid foundation they need to do great things.
