KISSIMMEE, Fla. (FNN NEWS) – The 2019 Allstate Tom Joyner Family Reunion (ATJFR), the “Party with a Purpose,” kept rockin’ didn’t miss a beat all through Labor Day weekend at the Gaylord Palms Resort & Convention Center, despite Hurricane Dorian threatening to bear down on Florida.
As usual, the ATJFR boasted its massive free expo local vendors and annual sponsors, including Denny’s, McDonald’s, Allstate, BET, AARP, as well as new sponsors this year: The Bahamas, NASA, the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex, and even the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Yes, the FBI. Several FBI agents shared their experiences in a panel discussion during this year’s event.
Here’s a quick visual nutshell of this year’s celebration of Tom Joyner’s final year before retirement, in case you evacuated for Hurricane Dorian and missed it.
As with any African American-focused event, Sunday equals church day, and this year, Black & Positively Golden (McDonald’s) presented the Inspiration Celebration Gospel Tour, which featured such gospel juggernauts as Erica Campbell and Isaac Caree.
Campbell also sat down with Tom Joyner Morning Show co-host Sybil Wilkes for an interview on her new book, More than Pretty: Doing the Soul Work that Uncovers Your True Beauty.
Both Campbell and Caree signed autographs and took photos with fans.
There was plenty more star power and family fun where that came from, of course, including the Bahamas Pool Party, which featured live music and great food. Tom Joyner had one surefire blast with families, all while continuing to benefit HBCUs.
