Trump HHS and Treasury Nominees Advance Finance Committee Vote, Despite Democrats’ Boycott

WASHINGTON, D.C. (FNN NEWS) via NPR – Senate Democrats boycotted President Trump’s nominees for the Department of Health and Human Services (Representative Tom Price, R-Ga., above right) and the Department of Treasury (Steve Mnuchin, above left) yesterday knowing that normally a Senate Finance Committee vote to advance a nominee requires one Democrat to be present. However, in a surprise meeting Wednesday morning, with all of the Democrats absent, Senate Finance Committee Republicans voted to suspend committee rules in order to vote on the nominees without them.

Finance Committee Chairman Senator Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) slammed the Democrats’ boycott as “the most pathetic thing.” As he opened the meeting, Hatch said, “We took some unprecedented actions today due to the unprecedented obstruction on the part of our colleagues.”
