Rep. Morales Files HB 269 to Revise Florida’s Definition of Developmental Disability to Help People in Need

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (FNN) – State Representative Daisy Morales, an Orlando Democrat, has filed House Bill 269 to revise Florida’s definition of developmental disability, to help more people excluded from desperately needed care, especially children.

HB 269 would adopt the federal language by defining ‘developmental disability’ based upon actual symptoms, physical limitations and needs, regardless of diagnosis.

Morales was the sole caretaker for her late 56-year-old sister Diana, who was diagnosed with Down Syndrome at 5. She also serves as Vice Chair on the Orange County Disability Advisory Board.
