Noor Salman Trial: A Federal Judge Denies Defense’s Motion for Acquittal

ORLANDO, Fla. (FNN NEWS) – Noor Salman’s defense attorneys and prosecutors for the U.S. government were in federal court Friday morning to discuss jury instructions and hear oral arguments on defense’s motion for acquittal. Defense argues prosecutors failed to prove its case.

Salman has pleaded not guilty to aiding the support of a foreign terrorist organization resulting in death and obstruction of justice.

During oral argument, prosecutors listed several factors as to why the judge should deny the defense’s motion. They claim Salman created or furthered a cover story in a text she sent to Omar Mateen the night he attacked Pulse nightclub. In addition, prosecutors say the couple’s spending habits, “casing” the City Place mall in South Florida and Disney Springs in the Orlando area.

U.S. District Judge Paul Byron denied defense’s motion for acquittal. The trial will go on to Monday morning when Salman’s attorneys will hear testimony from witnesses.
