51st Annual NAACP Image Awards Winners

PASADENA, Ca. (FNN NEWS) – The 51st NAACP Image Awards showcased black excellence at the Pasadena Civic Center Auditorium and aired live on BET Saturday February 22, 2020. The show recognized outstanding performances from talented people of color in the arts and groups or individuals leading the way in creatively promoting social justice. Several honorary awards included the President’s Award, the Chairman’s Award, Entertainer of the Year, and the Image Awards Hall of Fame, as well as 60 competitive categories in the specialties of literature, recording, television, and motion picture.

Lizzo was recognized as entertainer of the year. Recent criminal justice biopic Just Mercy had six nominations and won four: Outstanding Motion Picture, Outstanding Ensemble Cast in a Motion Picture, Outstanding Actor in a Motion Picture (Michael B. Jordan) and Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture (Jamie Fox). Congressman and civil rights leader John Lewis received the Chairman’s Award; Rihanna received the President’s award and gave an outstanding speech.
