JAGUARS KICK OFF 25TH SEASON: The 2019 season marks the Jaguars’ 25th season and the NFL’s 100th anniversary. The Jaguars’ social and digital platforms will feature a plethora of content commemorating the team’s silver season, including the introduction of the All-25 Team, which features the top 25 Jaguars in franchise history, as voted on by members of the local media who have covered the team through its first 25 seasons.

JAGUARS OPEN AT HOME: The Jaguars will host the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 1, marking the 14th time in franchise history the team will open the season at home and the first time since Doug Marrone was named the team’s head coach in January 2017. Jacksonville is 13-11 all-time in season openers, including a 7-6 record at home. Over the last two seasons, the Jaguars are 2-0 in season openers under Marrone. This marks the first time the Jaguars have opened the season at home since 2016 and the second time they have opened the season at home against the Chiefs (2013). With a victory over Kansas City in Week 1, the Jaguars will have won three consecutive season openers for the first time since 2004-06. For the second year in a row, the Jaguars will host the NFL’s reigning MVP in their home opener – Tom Brady in 2018 and Patrick Mahomes in 2019. In 2018, the Jaguars defeated the Patriots, 31-20, in Week 2. The Jaguars are 6-6 in 12 regular season games against the Chiefs, including 4-2 at home.

THURSDAY NIGHT AT THE BANK: The Jaguars host the Titans for Thursday Night Football in Week 3 on Sept. 19 in the team’s first divisional game of the year. The matchup marks the fifth time in the last six seasons in which the AFC South rivals will compete on Thursday Night Football, with the Jaguars holding a 2-0 record in such games at TIAA Bank Field. Overall, Jacksonville has won three of their last five games played on Thursday night, including four consecutive appearances at home. The Week 3 matchup on Thursday Night Football marks Jacksonville’s first prime-time, regular-season home game since 2015. Jacksonville has played in 37 nationally-televised prime-time games in the franchise’s 24-season history, posting a 17-20 record in those contests, including a 15-12 mark at home in Jacksonville. Jacksonville’s Week 3 matchup versus Tennessee marks the first time the Jaguars have played on Thursday Night Football in September and the second-earliest prime-time game in franchise history (Week 2, 2006, vs. Pittsburgh).

DON’T FORGET TO SET A REMINDER: The Jaguars will play six games outside the 1 p.m. ET window in 2019, tied for the second-most in franchise history and the most since 2008. See below for the matchups:

SUCCESSFUL IN SEPTEMBER: The Jaguars will play four games in September this season, including two games on the road. In Week 1, the Jaguars host the Chiefs, followed by a trip to AFC South rival Houston in Week 2. In Week 3, the Jaguars play the Titans on Thursday Night Football (NFL Network) before traveling to Denver the following week for a Week 4 matchup against the Broncos. During Head Coach Doug Marrone’s two-year tenure at the helm of the Jaguars, Jacksonville is 5-2 in the month of September, including 2-0 on the road.

RACKING UP THE FREQUENT FLYER MILES: The Jaguars will travel 11,229 miles during the 2019 regular season, including eight away games and one home game at London’s Wembley Stadium.

A DIFFERENT SOUTH: The Jaguars will face off against the NFC South in 2019 – playing the Saints (Week 6) and Buccaneers (Week 13) at home in Jacksonville and going on the road to take on the Panthers (Week 5) and Falcons (Week 16). Jacksonville is 12-12 all-time against the NFC South in the regular season and will look to pick up its first victory against the NFC South since 2011.

FAMILIAR FACE: Jacksonville will take on both the New Orleans Saints (Week 6) and the New York Jets (Week 8) during the 2019 season. Prior to becoming the head coach at Syracuse University in 2009, Jaguars Head Coach Doug Marrone served as the offensive line coach for the Jets from 2002-05 and the offensive coordinator for the Saints from 2006-08. While with New Orleans, Marrone directed an offense that led the league in total yardage in 2006 (6,264) and 2008 (6,571). Saints QB Drew Brees made the Pro Bowl twice in Marrone’s three seasons coordinating New Orleans’ offense, including a first-team Associated Press All-Pro nod in 2006 and NFL Offensive Player of the Year honors in 2008.

NEW FACES, NEW PLACES: The Jaguars will face four teams with new head coaches in 2019 – Denver in Week 4 (Vic Fangio), Cincinnati in Week 7 (Zac Taylor), the New York Jets in Week 8 (Adam Gase) and Tampa Bay in Week 13 (Bruce Arians).

GREAT AGAINST THE NORTH: The Jaguars will travel to take on the Bengals in Week 7, making their first trip to Cincinnati since 2014 and their first road appearance against an AFC North opponent since traveling to Cleveland and Pittsburgh during the 2017 season. Since Doug Marrone was named the Jaguars’ head coach in January 2017, Jacksonville is 5-1 against the AFC North with a +85-point differential, including the postseason. In franchise history, the Jaguars are 48-34 against AFC North opponents, the team’s best mark against any division. From 1995-01, the Jaguars were in the AFC Central with the Browns, Bengals and Steelers.

RETURN TO LONDON: The Jaguars return to London for their seventh consecutive season in 2019 when they host the Houston Texans in Week 9. The Jaguars are 1-0 in divisional games in London, posting a 30-27 victory against the Colts in 2016. The Jaguars’ six games played in London are the most among any team in the NFL. The Jaguars’ Week 9 matchup will mark the Texans’ first game in the UK and their second ever game in the NFL’s International Series (Mexico City, 2016). The Jaguars have won three of their last four appearances at London’s Wembley Stadium. A total of four games will be played in London in 2019. In 2018, all three teams that won their games in London (Seahawks, Chargers, Eagles) made the postseason.

BYE, BYE, BYE: The Jaguars’ Bye Week will take place during Week 10 of the 2019 season, which is the fourth time in franchise history the team has had their Bye Week during Week 10, and the first time since 2000. The Jaguars had a Week 10 Bye Week during their inaugural season in 1995.

SUNSHINE STATE: Jacksonville’s game against Tampa Bay in Week 13 marks the Jaguars’ 15th regular season intrastate game in franchise history. Jacksonville is 8-6 in games against Miami and Tampa Bay through their first 24 seasons, including a 17-7 road victory against the Dolphins last season.

DECEMBER IN THE BANK: The Jaguars will play three home games in December this season, hosting Tampa Bay on December 1, the Los Angeles Chargers on December 8 and finishing the season against Indianapolis on December 29. The last time the Jaguars played three homes games in December was in 2017 when they began a three-game win streak, defeating Indianapolis, 30-10, on December 3, Seattle, 30-24, on December 10 and Houston, 45-7, on December 17.

INDY GIVEN SUNDAY: Jacksonville split the season series against Indianapolis last season and posted the seventh shutout in franchise history in a 6-0 victory at TIAA Bank Field. The Jaguars have shut out the Colts for six straight halves entering 2019 and held Indianapolis scoreless in two of their last four meetings. Jacksonville will travel to play the Colts on Nov. 17 in Week 11 and hosts Indianapolis in the season finale on Dec. 29 in Week 17.

FIRST TIME FOR EVERYTHING: The Jaguars will play at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in the regular season for the first time in franchise history when they travel to Atlanta to face the Falcons in Week 16. Mercedes-Benz Stadium opened in 2017 and played host to Super Bowl LIII. The Jaguars played at Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium during the 2017 preseason.

LOOKING TO STAY PERFECT IN HOME SEASON FINALES: The Jaguars will conclude their season at home for the seventh time in franchise history and just the third time since 2000. Jacksonville’s most recent home finale also came against Indianapolis – a 19-13 victory in 2011 – and two of their six home games in Week 17 have come against AFC South opponents (Tennessee, 2005). Since the franchise’s inception in 1995, the Jaguars’ six home finales are the fewest in the NFL and they are the only team since 1995 to be undefeated in Week 17 home contests (6-0).

HOME SLATE FEATURES FIVE POSTSEASON TEAMS FROM LAST SEASON: Five of the Jaguars’ eight home games this season are against teams that qualified for last year’s postseason. Jacksonville’s home slate features three games against teams who won their respective division, including Kansas City (Week 1), New Orleans (Week 6) and Houston (London in Week 9).

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (Florida National News) – The Jacksonville Jaguars (9-7) shutout the Carolina Panthers (2-14) 26-0 in their final home game at EverBank Stadium today. The Jaguars had lost four games in a row prior to today’s victory. But with today’s win, the Jaguars secured their second consecutive winning season for the first time since 2004-05. QB Trevor Lawrence missed his first NFL game after starting 51 in a row before today, because of a sprained throwing shoulder. Lawrence left early in three of his last four games with injuries. C.J Beathard made his first start at quarterback in three years.

Beathard looked comfortable leading the Jaguars downfield on the first drive of the game, which ended in a 35 yard K Brandon McManus field goal to put the Jags up 3-0, which remained the score of the end of the first quarter.

Midway through the second quarter, McManus added a 26 yard field goal, extending the Jags lead to 6-0. Soon after, LB Josh Allen sacked Panthers QB Bryce Young to tie Calais Campbell for the Jaguars’ franchise single season record of 14.5 sacks. Late in the second quarter, McManus kicked a 24 yard field goal, to put the Jags ahead 9-0. Shortly afterwards, Allen added another sack of Bryce Young, to claim sole possession of the team record at 15.5 sacks. The Jaguars defense continued to hold the Panthers scoreless, limiting the team to 34 yards in total for the first two quarters, as the score remained 9-0 at halftime.

In the third quarter, RB Travis Etienne Jr. ran for a 62 yard touchdown, his tenth of the year. McManus added the extra point, as the Jags led 16-0. Beathard had an impressive 19 yard run midway through the third, but was taken out of the game by officials because he looked a little wobbly getting up, and went to the medical tent for evaluation. 33 year old QB Matt Barkley, who was signed earlier this week, warmed up for the Jaguars. Panthers LB Marquis Haynes Sr., who tackled Beathard, was badly injured on the play, and had to be taken off the field on a golf cart. Barkley led the Jaguars for one play, but Beathard was able to return to the field on the next down. That drive ended with a 34 yard McManus field goal, extending the lead to 19-0, which remained the score at the end of the third quarter.

Early in the fourth quarter, Allen added his third sack of the game, taking down Young, and extending his single season record to 16.5 sacks. Etienne added a one yard run for a touchdown on a play that was initially called a fumble, but was reversed on review and ruled a TD. With the XP from McManus, the Jaguars were up 26-0. Jaguars rookie S Antonio Johnson had an impressive interception of a Bryce Young pass late in the game. On the next drive, the Jaguars put in QB Matt Barkley to finish the game, and avoid any risk to C.J. Beathard’s health.

C.J. Beathard finished with 178 yards. Travis Etienne Jr. led the Jaguars’ rushing with 102 yards and 2 touchdowns. Evan Engram was the leading receiver with 60 yards.

The Jaguars head to Tennessee to face the Titans on Sunday, 1/7, for their final game of the regular season. Kickoff time has not yet been scheduled. The Jaguars are trying to make the playoffs in consecutive years for the first time since 1998-99. A victory against the Titans will give the Jaguars the AFC South division title. JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (Florida National News) – The Baltimore Ravens (11-3) beat the Jacksonville Jaguars (8-6) 23-7 to remain at the top of the AFC. With tonight’s loss, the Jags are now tied for first in the AFC South with the Colts and the Texans. This was the Jaguars’ first Sunday Night Football game in 15 years. The Jags’ last SNF game was 10/5/2008 when they lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers 26-21.

The Ravens were the first to score on a 43 yard K Justin Tucker field goal. The Jaguars had a chance to tie it up on the next drive, but K Brandon McManus hit the right upright on a 50 yard field goal attempt. The score remained 3-0 at the end of the first quarter.

McManus had an opportunity to redeem himself, but missed a 55 yard field goal wide left on the Jags’ first drive of the second quarter. Late in the second, Ravens’ QB Lamar Jackson completed a 16 yard touchdown pass to TE Isaiah Likely, followed by Tucker’s extra point, to put the Ravens ahead 10-0. The Jaguars came close to scoring, but ran out of time at the half.

Midway through the third quarter, the Jaguars put their first points on the board on a 65 yard QB Trevor Lawrence to WR Jamal Agnew touchdown pass, followed by MacManus’ extra point. The score remained 10-7 at the end of the third quarter.

Jaguars Mauled by Bengals 34-31 in OT

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (FNN) – The Jacksonville Jaguars (8-4) lost to the Cincinnati Bengals (6-6) 34-31 in the Jags’ first Monday Night Football game in 12 years. The Jaguars created a “Light Up The Bank” light show during player introductions to hype up the crowd for this prime time game watched by a national audience, but several injuries proved to be too much for the team to overcome.

On the second play of the game, the Jaguars’ CB Tre Herndon left the game for concussion protocol. Just minutes later, the Jaguars’ WR Christian Kirk suffered a groin injury which kept him out of the rest of the game. Despite these injuries, the Jags were the first to score tonight, as RB Travis Etienne Jr. ran 4 yards for a touchdown, followed by the extra point from K Brandon McManus. The Bengals’ K Evan McPherson (University of Florida alum) attempted a 57 yard field goal, but hit the crossbar and missed. At the end of the first quarter, the Jaguars were ahead 7-0.

In the second quarter, the Jaguars’ FS Andre Cisco left the game with a shoulder injury. Two plays later, the Bengals’ HB Joe Mixon ran 6 yards for a touchdown, and McPherson added the extra point, tying the game 7-7. Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence later completed a 22 yard touchdown pass to TE Evan Engram, for his first TD of the season. McManus added the XP, to put the Jags ahead 14-7. Andre Cisco was able to return to the game, but Mixon scored a touchdown soon after for the Bengals, running 2 yards into the end zone, followed by McPherson’s extra point, tying the game 14-14 heading into halftime.

In the third quarter, Bengals QB Jake Browning completed a 76 yard touchdown pass to WR Ja’Marr Chase, and McPherson added the XP to put the Bengals up 21-14. The Jaguars responded with a 14 yard Lawrence to WR Parker Washington touchdown pass, and XP by McManus, tying the game 21-21. The Jaguars’ LB Josh Allen intercepted a Bengals’ WR Tyler Boyd pass intended for Joe Mixon. The Jaguars capitalized on that interception with a touchdown run by Trevor Lawrence to end that scoring drive, and with McManus’ extra point, the Jags were ahead 28-21 at the end of the third quarter.

The Bengals scored on a 1 yard Jake Browning touchdown run, and McPherson added the XP, to tie the game 28-28. Another injury followed for the Jaguars soon after, as Trevor Lawrence had to be helped off the field after what looked like a painful ankle injury that kept him out for the remainder of the game, as he was replaced with QB C.J. Beathard. McManus attempted a 48 yard field goal, which went wide to the right. Soon after, McPherson kicked a 54 yard field goal to put the Bengals ahead 31-28. The Jaguars’ next scoring drive ended with a 40 yard McManus field goal, tying the game 31-31, with just 26 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter. The Bengals were unable to score before the clock ran out, and the game went into overtime.

The Jaguars won the coin toss and elected to receive. A holding call against the Jaguars reversed what could have been a 43 yard Beathard pass to WR Calvin Ridley. P Logan Cooke punted two plays later. The Bengals scoring drive ended with a 48 yard McPherson field goal, as the Bengals defeated the Jaguars 34-31.

The Jaguars’ last Monday night game was 12/5/2011 when they lost to the San Diego Chargers 38-14. The Jaguars now have an all-time record of 8-8 on Monday nights. Cincinnati is now 4-20 in road Monday Night Football games. Before tonight’s win, their last victory in a MNF road game was in 1990.

Trevor Lawrence finished with 258 yards and 2 touchdowns. Travis Etienne Jr. led the Jaguars’ rushing with 45 yards and 1 touchdown. Evan Engram was the leading receiver with 82 yards and 1 touchdown.

Tonight’s attendance was 67,951. The Jaguars head to Cleveland to face the Browns on Sunday, 12/10. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. The Jaguars return to “The Bank” to face the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday night, 12/17 at 8:15 p.m. Be sure to follow www.FloridaSportsChannel.com and www.FloridaNationalNews.com for more.
