ORLANDO, FLORIDA – Randy Ross, a marketing professional, activist, blogger and talk show host recently announced his campaign to challenge Orlando mayor Buddy Dyer in the city election, November 3, 2015.
“My hope will be to give a voice to the people of Orlando. I’ve been listening and the people are not being heard. Making the City Beautiful a great place to live, work and play requires partnership and vision through cooperative engagement. You can’t do that by sneaking a master plan into reality. The citizens deserve an equal seat at the table. They want to be part of the process and the solution,” Ross said Wednesday in a press release.
Ross, 49, said, “If I ran for office again I’d put my skeletons out front and center and I have.” Ross was arrested January 2015 on insurance fraud charges. He later pleaded guilty to charges of making a falsifying an insurance claim on stolen lawn furniture. He was sentenced to 5 years probation, 250 hours of community service and required to pay $4000 in restitution.
The arrest did not stop Ross’ community connections as the host of “Front Porch Chat with Randy Ross & Friends, and Facebook blogger of Orange County Political Voice.
The Florida National News was present when Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer declared he will run for a fifth term during his State of the City address at the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts on April 29 Dyer will kick-off his reelection campaign June 16th at the Abbey in Downtown Orlando.
In light of the timing change of the election, Ross is keenly aware that he’ll not out fundraise Dyer, “I’m confident he’ll raise more money and be popular with many. My goal, however, is to send a message to those that feel their voice isn’t being heard…I hear you and I intend on holding this Mayor accountable. He should have to campaign and defend his decisions,” said Ross. “We can’t just raise property taxes, move stadium plans, or develop unprofitable rail systems without critical thinking as to the outcome. Where is the measurement tool for all this?” Ross explained.
Ross unsuccessfully ran for Orange County Clerk of Courts in 2012, Orlando City Commission in 2012 and the Orange County School Board in 2000.
