FNN NEWSORLANDO, FL — This week, Reps.Maxwell Alejandro Frost (FL-10) and Darren Soto (FL-09) announced that Orange County Public Schools will receive $5 million from the Environmental Protection Agency’s Clean School Bus Program to purchase 20 electric school buses. The Clean School Bus Program was established under President Joe Biden’s Infrastructure Law and will deliver $5 billion over five years to replace school buses across the country with low- to zero-emission models.
“House Democrats and the Biden Administration continue to deliver on critical investments for the future of our clean energy communities,” said Congressman Frost. “This $5 million for electric school buses will help us tackle some of the worst contributors to climate change and help usher in a new era of clean energy for Orange County. With the climate crisis being a clear and present danger to our community and humanity, it is steps like this that help us fight this existential threat.”
“We are thrilled to see Orange County Public Schools receive $5 million from the Environmental Protection Agency to help transition their school bus fleet to electric. I was proud to vote for the new Infrastructure Law which continues to deliver for Florida. Reducing greenhouse gas emissions is a critical step to protect clean air for our students, combat climate change, and preserve the planet for future generations,” said Congressman Soto. “I look forward to seeing the positive changes coming to the school district and will keep working to secure more federal funds for Central Florida.”
“OCPS is excited to be a recipient of the EPA’s Clean School Bus Grant Program. The additional twenty (20) electric busses will help the district on our pathway towards sustainability,” said Orange County Public Schools Superintendent Maria Vazquez. “We are grateful for the support from Congressmen Soto and Frost to help us accomplish this goal.”
For the 2023-2024 funding period, OCPS was one of 67 applicants awarded in the country and one of five in the state of Florida. They operate the largest transportation department in Central Florida with more than 700 buses on the roads daily, more than 540 routes operated, and approximately 58,000 students served annually.

FNN NEWSORLANDO, Fla. (FNN) – Democratic State Senator Linda Stewart announces candidacy to run against incumbent Democratic Commissioner Mayra Uribe for Orange County Commission District 3 seat.
Press Release by Linda Stewart Campaign:
Stewart says there’s a desperate need for change in leadership on the Board of County Commission (BCC).
Over the past two decades Linda Stewart has proven that she can deliver to the needs of Orange County citizens. Just this year alone, she has secured 50 million dollars in the state budget for Central Florida, representing 20 projects such as funding for the construction of the new Holocaust Museum for Hope and Humanity, Habitat for Humanity, a community center with Alianza, Devereaux for enhancement to
children’s mental health programs, and affordable housing initiatives with Lift Orlando.
Continuing her advocacy, Linda has championed reforms for women’s issues by vocally supporting women’s freedom to choose reproductive healthcare and through the passage of Miya’s law, Donna’s law, and Gail’s law. She has also been a big contributor to the needs of law enforcement. Passing policies aiding in the prevention and prosecution of inappropriate public exposure, for luring and enticing
children, and for disturbing a body to conceal evidence. Working with other legislature members, she has championed water quality improvements and maintained funding for conservation efforts.
Linda has continued to demonstrate the bi-partisan work she has done with everyone without compromising her values. She feels that respect and honesty are the most valuable attributes she has possessed throughout her 18 years in public service. This attitude has demonstrated a strong record of success and is more valuable than ever in today’s world.
Her service and knowledge will be a major asset to our community as we move into the next decade. Responsible decisions must be made, and we must listen carefully to everyone and continue to provide outstanding constituent services.
“Some of my most rewarding times as an elected official came from my service at the local level, and there is nothing quite like the direct day-to-day involvement in your community. I hope to continue my success here in Orange County and continue to work with the State on issues to make sure our voices are heard,” said Stewart.
Current Orange County Commission District 3 Candidates:
Gus Martinez (09/01/2023), incumbent Mayra Uribe (10/02/2023), Delila Smalley (12/01/2023) and Linda Stewart (05/01/2024)
