APOPKA, Fla. (FNN NEWS) – The qualifying period for candidates running for Apopka’s Mayor, City Council Seats 1 and 2 begins noon, January 2, 2018.
Suzanne Kidd, local public servant and former 30-year public school teacher, is the first candidate to qualify for Apopka City Council Seat 1, and the only one to qualify by petition.
The Apopka city election will be held on March 13, 2018.
Suzanne Kidd taught in Detroit Public schools for 30 years then worked as a design professional. Her husband of 35 years, Don Stevenson, taught for 35 years. Their daughter Victoria is also an Apopka homeowner.
“Apopka is my home, and, as a Commissioner, I will listen to the voices in our community and work tirelessly to make sure we get things done and manage upcoming growth sensibly and proactively.”
An Apopka resident for 16 years, Suzanne has been an active participant in her homeowners’ association and Apopka Civic affairs. She attends every City Council meeting, Planning Commission meeting and budget workshop, and has served on numerous City committees, most recently as Chair of the City’s Visioning Steering Committee. She works closely with Habitat for Humanity to provide affordable housing for Apopka and teaches interior design to Habitat homeowners.
“Apopka is growing rapidly, and City Council decisions will greatly impact our City’s future. We have the opportunity to attract jobs and amenities to improve the quality of life for everyone,” said Suzanne. “But, we have to have a strong vision in place, and elected officials with the judgement to make the key decisions to get there.”
Suzanne’s extensive history of participation in Apopka Civic affairs has given her the knowledge and experience necessary to assess the issues facing Apopka. Suzanne is pledging to analyse plans rigorously and ensure that the right decisions are made to benefit the entire community, and that tax dollars are used effectively.
“I am ready to work for the residents and businesses of Apopka from day one,” said Suzanne. “I believe that by working together we can create a brighter future for our community while honoring Apopka’s historic legacy.”
