WASHINGTON, D.C. (FNN) – U.S. Senators Rick Scott and Marco Rubio, along with Senators Dick Durbin, Tim Kaine, Bill Cassidy, and Michael Bennet, introduced a resolution to officially recognize Edmundo González as the President-elect of Venezuela. This follows a significant presidential election in Venezuela, seen as a beacon of hope amidst ongoing tyranny.

Senator Rick Scott stated, “Nicolas Maduro, emboldened by the Biden-Harris administration, is attempting to steal another election, oppressing the people of Venezuela. Democracy and the security of our hemisphere are at stake. The United States must stand with the Venezuelan people, who have chosen Edmundo González as their leader.”

Senator Marco Rubio added, “The Venezuelan people’s desire for freedom is admirable. The recent election, which Maduro fraudulently claims to have won, showcases their tenacity. The U.S. and other democracies must recognize González as the duly elected president.”

Senator Dick Durbin noted, “This resolution reflects bipartisan recognition that Edmundo González won by a fair margin. The transparent release of election results by credible monitors confirms this. The Venezuelan people deserve respect for their choice and a peaceful transfer of power.”

Senator Tim Kaine emphasized, “Elections matter, and the will of the Venezuelan people must be respected. The opposition, led by María Corina Machado, ensured transparency. Democracies worldwide support the Venezuelan people’s choice and condemn Maduro’s fraudulent attempts.”

Senator Bill Cassidy remarked, “This moment is critical for our hemisphere. Do we allow continued tyranny just hours from America? Recognizing President-elect González is essential to changing course and addressing the threats from foreign powers and drug cartels.”

Senator Michael Bennet stated, “Edmundo González is the duly-elected president. The Venezuelan people seek to restore democracy, and the United States stands with them.”

Key Points:

  • Recognition of Edmundo González as Venezuela’s President-elect.
  • Criticism of Maduro’s regime and electoral fraud.
  • Bipartisan support for the Venezuelan people’s democratic choice.
  • Call for international support and peaceful transition of power.

President Trump Launches Trump Accounts with NYSE, Nasdaq Opening Bell Ceremony from Oval Office

NEW YORK (FNN NEWS) — President Donald Trump marked the official launch of Trump Accounts on Monday by participating in a first-of-its-kind opening bell ceremony for both the New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq from the Oval Office.

The event celebrated the rollout of the investment account program established under the Working Families Tax Cuts Act, which the Trump administration says is designed to help eligible American children build long-term wealth through tax-advantaged investment accounts.

Investment Accounts for American Children

According to the White House, Trump Accounts are available to U.S. citizens under the age of 18. Children born between Jan. 1, 2025, and Dec. 31, 2028, will automatically receive a $1,000 federal seed investment, while families and eligible contributors may make additional investments over time.

The administration said more than six million Trump Accounts have already been requested, with more than 86% of requests coming from families earning less than $200,000 annually.

President Trump Highlights Economic Opportunity

During the ceremony, President Trump said the accounts are intended to allow children to benefit from long-term economic growth.

“With the ringing of the opening bell for the stock market, Trump Accounts will now begin to grow right along with our booming economy,” Trump said. “Between individual contributions and the seed funds, $800 million in new capital will be invested in the stock market for America’s children this week.”

Business and Government Leaders Voice Support

Several business executives and administration officials participated in the announcement, including:

  • Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent
  • Michael Dell, founder and CEO of Dell Technologies
  • Adena Friedman, CEO of Nasdaq
  • Lynn Martin, president of the New York Stock Exchange Group
  • Jeffrey Sprecher, CEO of Intercontinental Exchange
  • Brad Gerstner, chairman and CEO of Altimeter Capital
  • Ted Cruz

Treasury Secretary Bessent said the initiative is intended to expand access to financial markets for American families.

Michael Dell encouraged additional companies to participate by contributing to employees’ children’s accounts.

Private-Sector Participation

The White House announced that philanthropists Michael and Susan Dell are supporting the initiative and said more than 50 companies have committed to making contributions to Trump Accounts for the children of their employees.

Administration officials described the initiative as part of a broader effort to encourage savings, investing and long-term wealth creation for future generations.

The announcement comes as the United States continues events commemorating the nation’s 250th anniversary, with administration officials describing Trump Accounts as an investment in America’s next generation.

Secretary Marco Rubio Says FIFA Made the Right Call Reversing Red Card Before U.S.-Belgium Match

Published

on

WASHINGTON (FNN NEWS)Marco Rubio voiced support Monday for FIFA’s decision to reverse the red card suspension of a U.S. Men’s National Team player ahead of the Americans’ FIFA World Cup matchup against Belgium.

Rubio made the remarks before meeting with Chilean Foreign Minister Francisco Pérez Mackenna when asked by reporters about FIFA’s decision.

‘It Was the Right Decision’

Rubio said he believed FIFA reached the correct conclusion by overturning the suspension.

“It was a bad decision,” Rubio said of the original red card ruling. “I think it was the right decision to reverse it.”

Although noting he is not a soccer expert, Rubio said those familiar with the sport believed the original call should not have resulted in a suspension.

He added that victories carry greater legitimacy when both teams compete at full strength.

Competition Should Be Decided on the Field

Rubio said Belgium would benefit from facing the United States with its top players available rather than having the outcome overshadowed by questions about an overturned disciplinary decision.

“If you’re Belgium, why would you want to play a match and then have everyone argue you didn’t really win because their best player wasn’t on the field?” Rubio said.

He expressed hope that both teams would be at full strength when they meet, allowing the winner to earn an unquestioned victory.

Lighthearted NATO Remark

Rubio also joked that the controversy could become “an international incident,” adding with a smile that it might be discussed during the upcoming NATO meeting with Belgian officials.

His comments were made in jest before turning back to diplomatic business with Chile’s foreign minister.

The United States is preparing to face Belgium in the FIFA World Cup knockout stage after FIFA overturned the suspension, making the player eligible to compete.
