ORLANDO, Fla. (FNN SPORTS) – With fans–and fancy electronic bracelets–lighting up Amway Center, Magic fans’ hopes rested on their home team getting the win for Friday’s season home opener…but they just couldn’t.

In the first quarter both teams started out shot for shot until the Magic defense started waning, causing the Knicks to pull ahead. Far ahead. The Knicks bested the Magic by 20 at the end of the first quarter, 36-16.

The slaughter continued in the second quarter. Knicks had doubled the Magic 50-25 by the middle of second quarter. By halftime, the Knicks led the Magic by 30, 65-35.

The Knicks were still ahead 86-64 at the end of the third quarter.

By fourth quarter, Orlando Magic head coach Mosley decided to focus on three-pointer shooters, at least initially, bringing Terrence Ross, R.J. Hampton and Jalen Suggs back on the court. During the postgame press conference, Mo Bamba shared that Coach Mosley stressed to the team at halftime to keep fighting, no matter what–despite the big point gap.

With 8:02 left in the game, the Knicks were dominating at 102-78.

In the end, the Knicks rout the Magic 121-96.

Knicks starters Julius Randle and former Magic player Evan Fournier led the Knicks in scoring Friday. Randle got a double double with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Fournier tallied 18 points, two rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Immanuel Quickley was the Knicks’ other scoring threat, coming off the bench and netting 16 points and shooting at 50 percent (five for 10 on field goals and four for eight on three-pointers).

Magic starters Frantz Wagner, Mo Bamba, and Jalen Suggs led the Magic in scoring Friday. Rookie Wagner led the team with 16 points and four rebounds; Mo Bamba already nailed his first double double for the season with 15 points and 10 offensive rebounds; and Suggs had 14 points, seven rebounds, eight assists and two steals.

The Magic next head to New York for a rematch against the Knicks on Sunday, and return home to host the Charlotte Hornets next Wednesday, October 27, 2021.
